Weather Conditions Cause Uncertainty For SpaceX Launch - News 13 Orlando

CAPE CANAVERAL AIR FORCE STATION, Fla. — The weather remains the big concern for SpaceX, which will try for the third time this week to launch a next generation satellite from the Space Coast on Thursday.

With rain showers being seen early in the morning, the launch specific forecast from the 45th Weather Squadron is not looking good.

SpaceX stated in a tweet that there is only a 20 percent chance of favorable weather conditions for Thursday morning's launch attempt.

The big issues: the electric field from thunderstorms, along with cumulus and thick clouds.

Over the past two days, SpaceX has been working to resolve an issue with one of the sensor readings on the rocket's first stage.

It caused a scrub Tuesday and a delay on Wednesday.

On board the Falcon 9 rocket is the U.S. Air Force's GPS-3 satellite.

It is the first in a third generation of satellites to provide more accurate, secure and versatile information for the military and for the average person

An estimated 4 billion people use GPS around the world.

Thursday's 26-minute launch window opens at 9:03 a.m. EST from the Cape Canaveral Air Force Station.

SpaceX will not attempt a first stage landing after launch time around.
