Howard Co. deputy catches glimpse of Geminid meteor on dashcam - WTHR

KOKOMO, Ind. (WTHR) - A Howard County sheriff's deputy caught a glimpse of the Geminid meteor shower while on patrol Wednesday night.

Cpl. Chris Cramer was on SR 22 at CR 600 East west of Greentown around 11:45 p.m. when the bright green meteor flashed across the sky. The meteor shot downward, then flashed brighter before fading from view.

Cramer told our partners at the Kokomo Tribune he's seen about 10 meteors during his patrols on the mainly rural roads of Howard County. He hit record on his dashboard camera just after he saw the meteor, which allowed him to save the 30 seconds of video before he pressed the button.

“Working midnight shift, you see a lot of shooting stars and meteors, but this is the first time I could record it,” Cramer told the newspaper. “It’s pretty neat. I didn’t realize there was going to be a meteor shower going on.”

The Geminid meteor shower was particularly busy and bright this year, with more than a meteor a minute projected overnight into Thursday and into Friday.
