As it rose, during this total eclipse, the moon turned a striking shade of red or ruddy brown that could be seen in many countries.
The "totality" period of the eclipse, where the light from the moon was completely covered, lasted one hour, 43 minutes, making it the longest in the century.
In Europe, where the weather allowed, the moon could be seen turning red as it became fully eclipsed by Earth, gifting photographers an extraordinary opportunity.
