Whether you are eyeing the sky early Sunday or Monday morning, or celebrating what we have here on the ground for Earth Day, the weather is doing its best to stay out of the way.
The peak of the Lyrid meteor shower is early Sunday morning. If you are seeing this before sunrise — about 6:10 a.m.— the clear sky will cooperate nicely. Otherwise, enjoy the weather we have for Earth Day! High pressure continues to dominate our weather pattern. We can expect a day similar to Saturday, which means plenty of sunshine. High temperatures will be just a bit warmer, in the low 60s.
While the peak of the Lyrid meteor shower is Sunday morning, you can still go out and grab a peek Sunday night into Monday morning. According to EarthSky.org, is it Comet Thatcher that is the source of these meteors. A starry night is expected under the cloudless sky. In another piece of good news, the moon will set just before the best viewing hours, which is right before dawn Monday.
Patchy fog will develop Monday morning. However, it will burn off and give way to a plethora of sun on a beautiful April start to the week. The morning will start at about 40 degrees before rising all the way into the upper 60s (upper 50s at the shore). Tuesday also will see plenty of blue sky in the morning. However, high pressure loses its grip on the region. Clouds will build in as temperatures top out in the low 60s (mid-50s at the shore).
A coastal storm will then ride up the East Coast for the middle of the week. Rain will begin Tuesday night. If rain holds until after midnight, it will be the longest streak of dry weather in South Jersey since the middle of January.
A washout is expected Wednesday, with a stiff onshore wind. However, while there will be locally heavy rain at times, I do not believe roadway flooding will occur. That being said, elevated coastal waters are likely during the high tides.
The system will slowly exit Wednesday night, keeping scattered showers in the region.
A few showers will linger into Thursday morning, before drying out nicely.
